Today is Itch Creator Day, which means when you make a purchase on Itch today (August 25), Itch doesn’t take their cut. It all goes to the creators. Imagine that!
And it just so happens that O Captain is finally on Itch! If you haven’t purchased a digital version of this spectacular collaboration between myself and Scott Bullock, today would be a perfect day to do so.
And if you’re looking for more tabletop games to try, here are some recommendations:
Stealing the Throne by Nick Bate: A fast-paced mecha heist with galactic stakes. The perfect game for a zero-prep oneshot.
This Ship Is No Mother by Thomas Manuel of New Madras Design Lab: A card-based game of deadly space gigs and drastic measures.
Dead Letter Society by Rori Montford: An epistolary game where you and a friend are members of the same secret vampiric society.
Tangled Blessings by Cassi Mothwin: A dark academia game for one or two players full of magic, duels, and drama.
I hope you’ll share your favorite itch games on social media today. Support indie creators!
The Unbound Zine
From alumni of the Uncaged project comes a brand-new and eclectic ttrpg magazine: Unbound! Each issue of this everything-but-5e zine examines one theme from multiple perspectives, offering material for multiple systems and stories.
Our first issue, Killers & Clues, is out now! It’s all about murder mysteries and how run a killer one (pun intended). This is a labor of love, full of concepts and games we want to share with the world. There’s content in here for Brindlewood Bay and the Basic Role Playing system, and plenty to enjoy for murder mystery lovers of all kinds.
SOLIDARITY FOREVER
On August 30, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are hosting a D&D-themed picket at the Universal Lot in Studio City. If you’re around, definitely go and show your support.
More Stuff
I will be at Big Bad Con again this year! You can find me on two panels. X Factor: Marketing Your Games, and Pitching You. I’m so very excited to make new connections and memories with everyone. If you see me, please say hi!
Like many of you I’ve sunk an embarrassing number of hours into Baldur’s Gate 3. I actually think there’s a lot we can learn as game masters and players from the game. I started posting about it, but if you follow me on Tumblr you may see more in the coming days.
Willy turned me on to this incredible video essay from Adam Millard about the taxonomy of Role Playing Games. It’s given me a lot to think about; I think many of you will enjoy it as well!
That’s all for this time. You’ll hear from me in another three months or so.
